New Delhi: Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer Vinay Mohan Quatra has been appointed as India's new ambassador to the US. The Ministry of External Affairs has announced the appointment of Quatra on its official website.
The post was vacant after the retirement of Taranjit Singh Sandhu in January. Quatra will soon assume his new responsibilities in Washington DC. Earlier, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, as the Foreign Secretary of India, has strongly represented India's position on many international issues.
Vinay Mohan Quatra is a 1988 batch Indian Foreign Service officer. His diplomatic career spans over 32 years. He has also been the Ambassador of India to Nepal. He is also credited with improving Indo-Nepal relations. Fluent in French and Russian, Quatra holds a postgraduate degree in science.
Apart from Hindi and English, he also knows French and Russian. He also holds a Diploma in International Relations from the Graduate School of International Studies, Geneva. Served as Ambassador to USA and France He has also served as Ambassador to USA and France earlier. Vinay Kwatra is serving as the Foreign Secretary of India from April 2022 to 15 July 2024. Kwatra is among the favorite officers of the Modi government.

Joint Secretary at PMO Quatra was Joint Secretary at PMO between 2015 and 2017. He was sent as Ambassador to France till February 2020. After returning from France, he was sent to Nepal.
