Twin Earthquakes Hit Nepal, Tremors Felt in Bihar
Two powerful earthquakes shook Nepal, with tremors felt in Bihar, West Bengal, and Pakistan

In the early hours of Friday, Nepal was jolted by two powerful earthquakes, sending tremors across the country and into neighboring regions, including Bihar in India and parts of Pakistan. The sudden seismic activity triggered widespread concern, as residents rushed out of their homes in fear.
According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the first earthquake struck at 2:36 AM local time, registering a magnitude of 5.5 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was near the Bihar-Nepal border in Bagmati Province, about 189 kilometers from Muzaffarpur, Bihar. People in several districts of northern Bihar, especially in the Mithila region, woke up to the strong tremors, though no significant damage was reported.
A more powerful 6.1-magnitude earthquake followed 15 minutes later, at 2:51 AM, with its epicenter in Sindhupalchowk District, around 65 kilometers east of Kathmandu. The impact was felt strongly in Kathmandu Valley and other parts of Nepal, shaking buildings and alarming residents. The tremors also extended to West Bengal in India and certain areas of Pakistan, further amplifying the anxiety among the population.
In Bihar, cities like Patna and Muzaffarpur experienced noticeable shaking, but local authorities confirmed that there were no immediate reports of casualties or major structural damage. Officials quickly assessed the situation and reassured the public, urging them to remain vigilant but calm.
Social media was flooded with reactions from people who had been startled awake by the tremors. Some shared videos of buildings shaking, while others described their fear as they rushed outside for safety.
While the earthquakes caused widespread panic, particularly in regions close to the Nepal border, authorities have confirmed that there has been no significant loss of life or property. Seismologists continue to monitor the situation, urging people in affected areas to stay alert for possible aftershocks.
Earthquake Preparedness Measures:
Experts emphasize the importance of earthquake preparedness, advising residents in seismic zones to secure heavy furniture, identify safe spots in their homes, and keep emergency kits ready. Nepal, which sits on the Himalayan seismic belt, is prone to frequent earthquakes, including the devastating 2015 earthquake, which resulted in massive destruction and loss of life.
Authorities remain on high alert, closely monitoring any further seismic activity in the region.
