Trump Slaps Tariffs on Penguins, Glaciers & Seabirds
US Prez announces 10% tariff on uninhabited remote islands in Australian territory

In a bizarre twist, US President Donald Trump’s latest trade tariffs have extended to Heard Island and McDonald Islands, a remote Australian territory near Antarctica, where the only “residents” are penguins, glaciers, and confused seabirds.
While these icy islands export absolutely nothing and have zero economic activity, Trump still saw fit to slap a 10% tariff on them—because why not?
Australia Stumped
The move has baffled Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, who called it a “betrayal of friendship” and quipped, “Nowhere on Earth is safe.”
“The administration’s tariffs have no basis in logic. This is not the act of a friend,” Albanese said.
“We will not join a race to the bottom that leads to higher prices and slower growth,” he added, subtly hinting that Australia prefers its trade wars penguin-free.
Tariff on Penguins?
The Heard Island and McDonald Islands are so isolated that getting there requires a two-week boat journey from Perth—a trip that literally no one takes. According to the Australian Antarctic Programme, the islands are home to penguins, seals, and rare birds who, we assume, were not consulted about these new tariffs.
Experts say no human has set foot there in nearly a decade. Yet, Trump boldly included the islands in his latest trade offensive, alongside economic powerhouses like India, China, and the European Union. Other countries include Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan.
So, if the penguins and seabirds in these Antarctic islands ever set foot in America, on the East or West coast, they will be liable to pay a Customs duty of 10%.
It also means that if a penguin accidentally waddles into California or a wandering albatross crash-lands in New York, they might get slapped with an import tax. The IRS (Internal Revenue Service) is reportedly still figuring out how to process tax returns for non-human species!
India Tough, Unfair: Trump
Speaking at a White House address, Trump announced new reciprocal tariffs on as many as 180 countries, as part of his ‘Make America Wealthy Again” agenda to bring jobs “roaring back.” (presumably to the Americans).
Holding up a chart of random tariffs imposed by other countries, he took a jab at India, claiming they charge the US a whopping 52% on goods while the US has been “too nice for too long.”
“India, very, very tough. Very, very tough. The Prime Minister just left. He’s a great friend of mine, but I said, ‘You’re a friend of mine, but you’re not treating us right.’”
This, of course, came from the same guy who just taxed an uninhabited island filled with penguins.
Global Trade Impact
Economists are now warning that these new tariffs could trigger a new wave of global trade tensions, with retaliatory measures expected from affected countries—including, perhaps, a formal protest from the penguin community.
As for the residents of Heard Island and McDonald Islands, the penguins, seals, and seabirds remain blissfully unaware of their sudden inclusion in international trade wars. But if Trump has his way, they'd better start paying up!
