Deadly Crashes in Mexico, Brazil Kill 79
At least 41 dead in Mexico bus-truck collision, 38 in Brazil; investigations on

Two major bus crashes in Mexico and Brazil on Saturday left at least 79 people dead and several others injured, prompting investigations into both incidents.
In southern Mexico’s Tabasco state, a passenger bus carrying 48 people collided with a truck, killing 41 people, including both drivers, according to officials. The accident occurred on a highway, and emergency responders were dispatched to assist survivors. Bus operator Tours Acosta expressed deep regret, stating it was “profoundly sorry” and pledged full cooperation with authorities. The mayor of Comalcalco, Ovidio Peralta, said officials were coordinating with federal and state agencies to provide assistance.
In Brazil’s southeastern Minas Gerais state, another fatal crash between a passenger bus and a truck killed 38 people and injured 13. Authorities said the bus, traveling from São Paulo with 45 passengers, may have lost control after a blown tire, leading to a collision. Some reports suggested that a falling granite block hit the vehicle. The Minas Gerais fire department confirmed that all victims had been removed from the scene.
Governor Romeu Zema of Minas Gerais said on X (formerly Twitter) that the government had fully mobilized resources to support the victims' families, particularly as the tragedy occurred just before Christmas.
Officials in both Mexico and Brazil have launched investigations to determine the exact causes of the crashes. Rescue and recovery efforts were completed, and authorities are expected to release more details as inquiries progress.
