Security Forces Neutralize 12 Maoists in Bijapur Encounter; Two Jawans Lost
In a significant anti-Maoist operation on Sunday, security forces engaged in a fierce encounter with Maoists at Indravati National Park in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district. The operation resulted in the death of twelve Maoists and two security personnel, with two additional jawans sustaining injuries.
Bastar Range Inspector General of Police, Sundarraj P, confirmed that the fallen security personnel belonged to the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Special Task Force (STF), specialized state-level units dedicated to anti-Maoist operations. The injured jawans are being airlifted to Raipur for medical treatment.
The encounter began after joint security forces acted on intelligence about Maoist presence in a specific area of the park. Police reported intermittent firing throughout the morning, with search operations continuing in the area.
This marks the second major encounter in Bijapur district within a week, following an operation that resulted in eight Maoist casualties. It's also the second encounter this year at Indravati National Park, where three Maoists were neutralized on January 12.
The Indravati National Park, spanning 2,799.08 square kilometers and bordering Maharashtra, has been a known Maoist stronghold, particularly in the Abujhmad region. The park, designated as a tiger reserve in 1983, continues to be a focal point for anti-Maoist operations.
