Indian Army Engages Pakistani Drones Over Amritsar
Indian Armed Forces respond robustly to cross-border provocations, targeting key Pakistani military assets and neutralizing aerial threats

In a significant escalation of hostilities between India and Pakistan, the Indian Armed Forces have launched targeted strikes against Pakistani military positions and drone launch sites along the international border.
On the night of May 9, 2025, the Border Security Force (BSF) conducted a retaliatory operation in the Jammu sector, destroying a Pakistani post and a terrorist launch pad in Looni, District Sialkot. These sites were reportedly used for launching drone attacks into Indian territory. The BSF's swift action caused extensive damage to Pakistan Rangers' assets and reinforced India's commitment to safeguarding its sovereignty.
Simultaneously, the Indian Army's air defense units intercepted and destroyed multiple Pakistani drones over Khasa Cantt in Amritsar. The drones were engaged and neutralized, preventing potential threats to civilian and military infrastructure. The Ministry of Defence condemned Pakistan's provocative actions, highlighting the unacceptable nature of such violations of India's sovereignty.
In a related incident, a Pakistani drone attack on the outskirts of Ferozepur town in Punjab resulted in injuries to three civilians, including a woman. The victims, members of a single family, sustained burn injuries and were promptly provided medical assistance. Security forces have secured the area, and investigations are underway.
The Defence Ministry reported the sighting of drones at 26 locations along the International Border and Line of Control with Pakistan, including Baramulla, Srinagar, Avantipora, Nagrota, Jammu, Ferozepur, Pathankot, Fazilka, Lalgarh Jatta, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Bhuj, Kuarbet, and Lakhi Nala. While most of these drones managed to evade interception, seven have been successfully shot down by Indian forces.
The increased drone activity has been attributed to Pakistan-based militant groups, such as Lashkar-e-Taiba, with alleged support from Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). These drones are reportedly used to transport weapons, explosives, and narcotics into Indian territory, fueling further tensions along the border.
In response to the growing threat, the Indian government has directed security agencies and law enforcement forces to remain vigilant and enhance surveillance to counter drone activities effectively. The situation remains fluid, with both nations on high alert as they navigate this complex and volatile conflict.
