India and the United Kingdom have successfully concluded a long-awaited Free Trade Agreement (FTA), Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Tuesday following a telephonic discussion with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Modi took to social media platform X to share the news, writing: &ldquo;Delighted to speak with my friend PM @Keir_Starmer. In a historic milestone, India and the UK have successfully concluded an ambitious and mutually beneficial Free Trade Agreement, along with a Double Contribution Convention.&rdquo;
Emphasising the importance of the agreement, Modi stated that the &ldquo;landmark agreements will further deepen our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, and catalyse trade, investment, growth, job creation, and innovation in both our economies.&rdquo;&nbsp;
He added, &ldquo;I look forward to welcoming PM Starmer to India soon.&rdquo;
Both leaders hailed the deal as a historic milestone in the bilateral relationship, with the FTA expected to foster trade, investment, and job creation in both countries. They agreed that the landmark agreements would open up new opportunities for businesses, enhance economic links, and strengthen people-to-people ties between the two nations.
In his remarks, Prime Minister Starmer highlighted that the agreement is a key part of the UK government&rsquo;s Plan for Change, aimed at building stronger alliances and reducing trade barriers globally to create a more secure and resilient economy.&nbsp;
