India Acts on Terror; Food Security Not at Risk
With terror camps hit and LoC tensions high, Centre assures public of full food reserves and farm support

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan on Friday reassured the nation of adequate food supplies, stating that India's agricultural reserves are currently at full capacity.
Speaking at a press briefing, the Minister also revealed that the Central government is developing a new scheme aimed at boosting crop production.
“Our agricultural reserves are full. Whether wheat, rice or other grains, we have sufficient quantities. The soldiers are posted on the border, and farmers are in the fields. Scientists stand with them. We have curated a scheme to develop new dimensions of the production of Kharif crops. It is our responsibility to work with the farmers in the fields and increase production,” Chauhan told reporters.
He underlined the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring food security, noting that while the armed forces guard the nation’s borders, farmers continue their work in the fields, supported by scientists.
His statement comes amid escalating hostilities between India and Pakistan, following the launch of Operation Sindoor. Under the operation, Indian forces destroyed terrorist camps at nine locations across the border in retaliation for the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam.
Addressing the violence in Pahalgam, Chauhan voiced strong condemnation over the loss of civilian lives. “In Pahalgam, the innocent civilians were killed (by terrorists). Husbands were killed before their wives in the name of religion. Fathers were shot dead before their sons. Our country’s resolve is to end terrorism at its roots. We are proud of our army. We will not spare the terrorists. We attacked the terror hotspots but not the civilians. The army is fighting against the kind of evil things Pakistan is doing,” he said.
Chauhan further emphasised that India’s military response had specifically targeted terrorist facilities and avoided civilian infrastructure.
“The soldiers are posted on the border, and farmers are in the fields. Scientists stand with them,” he reiterated during the briefing.
The developments come against the backdrop of intensified military activities in Jammu and Kashmir. On Thursday, a total blackout was imposed across Jammu after explosions and sirens were reported near the Line of Control in the Poonch and Rajouri districts.
Later that night, the Border Security Force (BSF) successfully prevented a significant infiltration attempt along the International Boundary in Samba district. In a statement posted on X, BSF Jammu said, “At around 2300 hours on May 8 2025, BSF foiled a major infiltration bid at the International Boundary in Samba district, J&K.”
In a separate incident, defence sources confirmed that the Indian Army intercepted and shot down two Pakistani drones in the Naushera sector of Jammu and Kashmir. The action took place amidst a heavy artillery exchange between Indian and Pakistani troops.
