Drone Attacks Fail, Infiltration Bid Foiled: Omar Abdullah Heads to Jammu
Abdullah calls situation serious; vows strong response to provocations

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah left Srinagar for Jammu on Friday to assess the situation following a failed Pakistani drone attack targeting the region.
In a post on his official X handle, the Chief Minister stated, “Driving to Jammu now to take stock of the situation after last night’s failed Pakistani drone attack directed at Jammu city and other parts of the division.”
Multiple Pakistani drones and low-range missiles aimed at key locations including Jammu, Samba, and R.S. Pura were successfully intercepted and neutralised by alert Indian troops. In a separate incident, terrorists, reportedly aided by Pakistani forces, attempted to infiltrate across the international border in the Samba district but were pushed back.
According to a BSF spokesperson, the infiltration bid occurred around 11 p.m. and was effectively foiled, forcing the terrorists to retreat to the Pakistani side of the border.
Meanwhile, Pakistan's heavy mortar shelling on civilian areas in the Uri sector of Baramulla district led to casualties. A shell struck a vehicle travelling from Razerwani to Baramulla near Mohura, killing Nargis Begum and injuring another woman, Hafeeza Begum.
The Pakistan Army also carried out heavy shelling in Uri, Tangdhar, Poonch, Rajouri on the Line of Control (LoC), and in Samba along the international border.
In Jammu city, drones and low-range missiles targeting the airport and defence installations were destroyed mid-air, thanks to a robust air defence system deployed by Indian forces.
As a precaution, a complete blackout was enforced in Jammu and Srinagar following sirens warning of the incoming threat. Power has since been partially restored in both cities.
Due to the tense situation, authorities announced that all educational institutions—including schools, colleges, and universities—will remain closed across Jammu and Kashmir on Friday and Saturday.
Education Minister Sakina Itoo confirmed that the decision was made with student safety in mind. The Registrar of Kashmir University also announced a suspension of classwork for the day.
