Over 550 Illegal Immigrants Held in Major Raids Across Gujarat
Gujarat Police arrest hundreds in illegal immigration sweep; fake documents discovered

In a sweeping crackdown across Gujarat, police detained more than 550 individuals suspected of living illegally in the country, following late-night raids in Ahmedabad and Surat. The large-scale operations targeted undocumented immigrants, many of whom were reportedly using forged documents to settle in urban neighborhoods.
The coordinated action was conducted by multiple enforcement units, including the Special Operations Group (SOG), Crime Branch, Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU), and local police teams. Based on intelligence inputs, the raids focused on areas believed to harbor a high number of illegal immigrants.
In Surat, over 100 Bangladeshi nationals were detained in an overnight combing operation. Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajdeep Singh Nakum confirmed that the individuals had crossed into India illegally and were living under false identities. Authorities have initiated deportation proceedings.
In Ahmedabad, more than 450 people were taken into custody during a coordinated pre-dawn raid. According to Joint Commissioner of Police Sharad Singhal, the Chandola area was a major focus due to intelligence pointing to large-scale illegal settlements. Numerous forged documents, including Aadhaar and ration cards, were recovered during the operation.
The crackdown follows directives from senior state officials, including the Home Minister and Director General of Police, calling for stronger enforcement against illegal immigration and document fraud. Police said the action also aims to disrupt networks facilitating human trafficking and the production of fake IDs.
Authorities have begun the verification process and are working with immigration officials to carry out deportations. Gujarat Police stated that similar operations will continue, and they urged landlords and employers to verify documentation before providing housing or work to individuals.
The raids mark a firm stance by law enforcement on unauthorized migration, with a focus on maintaining internal security and curbing document-related crimes.
