Endless speeches, repeated promises&mdash;do they inspire Congress workers anymore, or are they eroding the last remnants of hope? The truth is stark: without immediate, visible action, the party's national leadership risks losing its final line of defence&mdash;the committed cadre. In Gujarat, that base is already on shaky ground. If this continues, only a handful of disconnected leaders, lacking grassroots reach or mass appeal, will remain&mdash;leaders who cannot revive the party or stand against the might of the ruling BJP, which commands both a disciplined organization and a loyal vote bank.
The recent national conventions of the All-India-Congress-Committee (AICC) concluded in Ahmedabad with a familiar tone. Party President Mallikarjun Kharge made bold statements: &ldquo;Party posts should go to those who sweat and bleed for the party&mdash;not to corrupt cronies.&rdquo; He even suggested retirement for power-hungry leaders clinging to posts. These words may have struck a chord with the sidelined workers, but words alone don&rsquo;t rebuild broken systems.
This isn&rsquo;t the first time such rhetoric has been offered. Just a month ago, Rahul Gandhi warned of BJP&rsquo;s &ldquo;B-Team&rdquo; within Congress&mdash;leaders and workers sabotaging from within. He promised a purge. Yet, nothing concrete has followed.
The pattern is not new. Even in 1990, the late Rajiv Gandhi was informed of internal groupism in North Gujarat. He vowed to act but never got the chance. Three decades later, that infighting still festers.
To Congress President, the Leader of Opposition, and senior leadership&mdash;this is no longer the time for speeches. It is the time for bold, ruthless reform. If the party truly wishes to rebuild its organizational strength and morale, the change must begin from within.
Conduct a surgical strike inside the party. Empower the deserving. Remove the dead weight. Or prepare for yet another electoral humiliation&mdash;one that may be fatal.
