High-level security meet in Delhi after deadly Pakistani shelling in Rajouri sector

PM Modi Reviews 'Operation Sindoor' Amid Escalating Cross-Border Tensions: High-Level Security Meet Held in Delhi”
In a rapidly evolving security situation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a high-level strategic meeting at his official residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, on Saturday, following a deadly escalation along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir. The meeting brought together key figures of India’s national security establishment, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, and the tri-service chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
The extraordinary security huddle comes in the wake of sustained Pakistani aggression earlier in the day in the Rajouri sector, where heavy artillery shelling claimed the life of Additional District Development Commissioner Raj Kumar Thapa and left multiple civilian casualties in its wake. Indian military officials confirmed the destruction of civilian infrastructure in the barrage, signalling a deliberate attempt by Pakistani forces to provoke a wider confrontation.
According to senior sources present at the briefing, the situation along the LoC remains fluid, with Pakistan intensifying its use of small arms and artillery since Friday evening, particularly in the Uri sector. The Indian Army, maintaining strict rules of engagement, has retaliated with precision and proportional force, targeting Pakistani forward posts and logistical nodes.
The Prime Minister's meeting served as a critical juncture to assess the ongoing military response under the codename ‘Operation Sindoor’, a calibrated tactical manoeuvre designed to counter Pakistan’s heightened hostility without escalating into full-scale conflict. The operation is understood to involve multi-domain coordination, including targeted artillery reprisals and surveillance operations, bolstered by real-time intelligence.
Prior to the broader security review, PM Modi held a closed-door, one-on-one session with NSA Ajit Doval early Saturday morning. Sources familiar with the briefing indicate that Doval provided a comprehensive overview of India’s current posture, including deployment patterns, civilian protection protocols, and measures to neutralise high-value targets across the border.
A senior official privy to the discussions emphasised that “India’s response will remain firm yet responsible,” underlining that the aim is to deter Pakistan’s misadventures while preserving strategic stability in the region.
As of this dispatch, tensions along the LoC remain high, with Indian troops maintaining heightened alertness across forward bases. Further developments under Operation Sindoor are expected as the Indian security apparatus continues to monitor Pakistani intent and movement closely.
