The injured victims were rushed to different hospitals, including Shukan Hospital, Doshi Hospital, SSG Hospital, and another private medical facility.
The accused driver, identified as Rakshit Chaurasiya, a law student at MS University, was allegedly intoxicated or under the influence of drugs when he lost control of his Volkswagen Virtus GT Plus (GJ06RA6879). The vehicle, owned by Deon Technology Pvt Ltd, left a trail of devastation before coming to a halt.
Locals Chase and Thrash Accused Driver
Eyewitnesses at the scene described a chaotic aftermath. As soon as Chaurasiya stumbled out of the vehicle, angry bystanders chased him down, dragging him onto the road and thrashing him before handing him over to the police. His co-passenger, Mit Pranshu Chauhan, a student of Parul University, managed to escape, leaving the abandoned car behind. Police have launched a manhunt to track him down.
Police Investigation Underway
Deputy Commissioner of Police Panna Momaya confirmed that the overspeeding car was coming from Sangam to Muktanand Road, with two occupants inside. Rakshit Chaurasiya, originally from Varanasi, was at the wheel, while Mit Pranshu Chauhan was seated next to him.
“The accused driver appeared intoxicated and was not in his senses at the time of the accident,” said a senior police officer at the scene. “We have taken him into custody and are conducting further investigations.”
Political Fallout: BJP Cancels Holi Event
In response to the shocking incident, the Vadodara city unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced the cancellation of its ‘Rang Utsav’ Holi celebration that was scheduled to take place later in the day. City BJP chief Dr. Jayprakash Soni confirmed the decision on social media, citing the accident as the reason.
