Family of 5 Attempts Suicide in Guj’s Vadali
Father dies during treatment; mother, 3 kids critical; reason behind extreme step unclear

In a tragic incident in Vadali of Sabarkantha district, five members of a family attempted suicide by consuming poison under unknown circumstances. The incident has sent shockwaves in the region. The family—consisting of the father, mother, and their three children—was rushed to local hospitals for emergency treatment.
The father, Vinubhai Mohanbhai Sagar, succumbed to the effects of the poison during treatment. His wife, Kokilaben, along with their sons Nilesh and Narendra (both aged 14), and daughter Krishna (aged 17), remain in critical condition and are currently undergoing treatment at Himmatnagar Civil Hospital.
Initially, the affected family was taken to hospitals in Vadali and Idar for primary care but were later referred to Himmatnagar due to the severity of their condition.
Belonging to the Sagar community, the family worked as agricultural labourers. According to sources, they allegedly consumed the poison early on Saturday morning. Neighbours raised an alarm when they noticed the family’s deteriorating condition, and emergency services quickly transported them to a nearby hospital.
The reason for the mass suicide attempt remains unclear. Police believe it could be due to financial distress, social pressure, or familial conflict. Statements from the surviving family members will be recorded once they regain consciousness to determine the exact cause.
Police officials, including PSI Joshi, arrived at the hospital as soon as they were notified of the incident. Since four members of the family are currently unconscious, a clear motive has yet to be established. Further investigation will proceed based on their statements.
Locals speculate that the extreme step may have been taken due to severe financial difficulties, while others suspect land or family disputes as a possible trigger.
