OSCOE Coming to Gujarat and Haryana Soon
Suzuki and Maruti to establish Osamu Suzuki Centre of Excellence in Gujarat and Haryana to honour late chairman

Suzuki Motor Corporation and Maruti Suzuki India Limited have announced a proposal to establish the Osamu Suzuki Centre of Excellence (OSCOE) in Gujarat and Haryana as a tribute to the late Osamu Suzuki, former Chairman of Suzuki Motor Corporation. The announcement was made during a remembrance ceremony held at Yashobhoomi, Delhi, in honour of Suzuki, who died on December 25, 2024 in Japan.
Osamu Suzuki joined Suzuki Motors in 1958 and became President in 1978. He later assumed the role of Chairman in 2000 and remained the longest-serving leader in the company’s history.
Known for introducing Japanese manufacturing philosophies to India, he played a key role in enhancing the country’s industrial competitiveness while promoting inclusive and cohesive growth across the sector.
In 1983, driven by a strong determination to enter the Indian market, Suzuki led the company into a joint venture with Maruti, resulting in the creation of Maruti Suzuki. Under his leadership, the partnership significantly expanded vehicle production in India, focusing on delivering affordable and fuel-efficient cars to Indian consumers.
His contribution to India’s automotive and manufacturing landscape was formally recognized when the Government of India awarded him the Padma Vibhushan, the country’s second-highest civilian honour, in January 2025.
The proposed Osamu Suzuki Centre of Excellence will work to support India's objective of high manufacturing growth. It will also aim to enhance the capabilities of component manufacturers across all levels—including tier-1, tier-2, and tier-3 suppliers—to strengthen and globalise the country’s supply chain.
According to the companies, OSCOE will focus on infrastructure development and the creation of collaborative programmes with academic institutions and other organizations. These programs will promote the Japanese philosophy of manufacturing and will include a variety of formats such as formal teaching, lectures, seminars, and discussions.
