India-Pakistan Conflict Escalates as Pakistan Mounts Major Cross-Border Assault

In a dramatic escalation of hostilities, Pakistani forces have launched a coordinated attack on multiple Indian targets across Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Punjab mere hours after their earlier failed attempt to strike 15 Indian cities.

The assault, which began shortly before 21:00 local time, has seen border areas along the Line of Control and International Border come under heavy shelling, whilst winter capital Jammu faces relentless air strikes. The Pakistani offensive includes missile launches and drone deployments, with craft being intercepted in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer and near Sir Creek in Gujarat.

Jammu Under Fire

Residents of Jammu reported loud explosions followed by air defence sirens and an immediate blackout across the city. Footage from local sources shows luminous streaks across the night sky as Indian air defence systems intercept incoming missiles and drones.

The city's skies continue to flash with defensive countermeasures, whilst on the ground tension is palpable. Mobile communications have been disrupted in parts of the city, further complicating efforts by residents to contact loved ones.

Eight missiles were directed at strategic areas in Jammu and Kashmir—RS Pura, Arnia, Samba, and Hiranagar—all locations with significant military installations. Indian Air Defence Units successfully intercepted these incoming threats.

Military Facilities Targeted

According to India's Defence Ministry, military stations at Jammu, Pathankot and Udhampur were specifically targeted by Pakistani drones and missiles. The threats were "swiftly neutralised using kinetic and non-kinetic capabilities" in accordance with established protocols. No casualties or material losses have been reported.

In an official statement, the ministry affirmed that "India remains fully prepared to defend its sovereignty and ensure the safety of its people."

India's Information and Broadcasting Ministry stated that "India has negated Pakistan's escalation bid with focused, measured and non-escalatory response. Indian armed forces reiterate their commitment to non-escalation, provided it is respected by the Pakistani military."

Pakistani F-16 Downed

Military sources report that Indian forces have successfully downed a Pakistani F-16 supersonic fighter jet after it departed from Sargodha air base. The aircraft was reportedly brought down using an Indian surface-to-air missile defence system.

Pathankot Under Artillery Fire

The strategically important city of Pathankot in Punjab, located just 30 kilometres from the International Border, has come under heavy artillery fire. The city serves as a crucial entry point toward Jammu and holds significant tactical importance.

Widespread Blackouts

Authorities have implemented a complete blackout across border areas of Jammu and Kashmir. Similar measures have been extended to Chandigarh, Ferozepur, Mohali and Gurudaspur in Punjab, as well as parts of Rajasthan and Gujarat—all regions sharing borders with Pakistan.

Military analysts consider this to be the most significant military confrontation between the nuclear-armed neighbours in recent years, with potential implications for regional stability.
